Welcome to list #249, the first of 2022. Bit hard to get one out after the ‘festivities’ of Christmas and the new year. I’ve always held off with a January list because ‘most’ people have run out of sheckles after the over-indulgences of the festive season. It also gives us a chance and kick back and watch the cricket (4 nil by the way). The Poms did display a modicum of starch in the Sydney test but they are a shadow of the Botham teams that used to stick it to us on a frequent basis. Best thing the Australians have done is put the fantastic Pat Cummins in as captain. What an impressive young bloke he is. Great leadership shown by the young man. And the young Cameron Green from WA. What a find! He’s only 22 and built like the proverbial. Scotch College educated (as was our very clever son) and will probably look forward to a further 10-12 years in the test team, ATBE. And Ash Barty—how good is she? What a girl!!
This COVID thing has knocked us all for 6 (can’t leave the cricket alone!). Our erstwhile Premier has blinked and has decided to keep the border closed past the 5th Feb thus destroying many a family’s hopes and aspirations in seeing their loved ones any time soon. Our tourist industry has ‘gone for a burton’ as it were. Haven’t seen any stats showing how many businesses have gone to the wall but I’m not sure whether our state government even cares. They’re not concerned about getting the boot as they control both houses by a large margin. Thankfully, Twiggy and Gina are there to prop them up with oil and iron ore revenues. So, all we can do is sit back and see what unfolds. So, onto books. I’ve listed a bunch of quality books on the Falklands War of 1982 for the first time. Also some nice Folio editions in slip cases (see front cover pic). This list is dedicated to old soldiers who may not be traveling well under health and mental pressures. We are here for you old mates.

Vaya con Dios
